Functional Food

Did you know that all Wally Nuts Pastes are functional foods?

But what is a functional food?

Functional foods are those that, in addition to their basic nutritional properties, have an additional and specific beneficial effect on our health. Their regular consumption is important as they contribute to the proper functioning of the body in many ways. Among the best-known are:

• Dietary fibers: used to normalize the digestive tract and combat constipation.

Unsaturated fatty acids: The essential fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6 or oleic acids, which are present in our pastes, help reduce cholesterol and triglycerides. Polyunsaturated fats also act as antiplatelet agents, helping to prevent the formation of blood clots in the blood system.

Phytosterols: those that "absorb" the "bad" LDL cholesterol, helping to manage hypercholesterolemia.

Amino acids: they are the simplest components of proteins, and their main function is in the nervous system, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, as well as promoting sleep and the immune system, strengthening the body's defences.

Vitamins and minerals: Among the minerals that are present and of good quality are iron, iodine, calcium, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc. These help prevent pregnancy complications and help prevent osteoporosis, thyroid diseases, anemia, among many others.

Antioxidants: Corresponds to vitamins C and E, polyphenols, zinc, beta-carotene, and selenium. These help prevent tissue oxidation and the effects of free radicals on our DNA which accelerate the aging process, promote degenerative diseases, and can lead to the formation of genetic alterations that can lead to the development of cancer.
